Cape Elizabeth is home to the 94-acre Fort Williams Park. This is the location of Portland Head Light, which is the oldest lighthouse in Maine and is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. In this area is also Two Lights State Park, which offers unobstructed views of Casco Bay and a view of the two lighthouses from which the park got its name, and Crescent Beach State Park , which is a popular spot for families because the crescent shape of the mile-long beach keeps big waves at bay.

Driving is a great way to see this area, but are many other options for exploring the beautiful scenery of Southern Maine’s coastline. A trolley tour is a great way to travel to Portland Headlight. Use Casco Bay Lines or another cruise, charter or tour to see Peaks Island and other surrounding islands of Portland. Portland is a pedestrian and bike friendly city and Portland Trails has a great list of walking trails with maps for exploring the region on foot.

Portland is located on the Casco Bay and is Maine’s largest city as well as its creative hub. The city has many one-of-a-kind boutiques and shops and incredible restaurants and cafes. Downtown Portland has many cultural offerings including acclaimed Portland Museum of Art, with its adjoining Children’s Museum, and performances by Portland Stage Company and
Portland Symphony Orchestra.

Portland has a great jazz, rock and independent music scene. The Civic Center and The Merrill Auditorium have larger events and concerts, while venues like One Longfellow Square and Space Gallery are smaller in capacity and tend to feature less known up-and-coming artists. Similarly, Maine College of Art in downtown Portland has frequent student shows offering the same opportunity for students in the visual arts.

The city is filled with art galleries with frequent art openings and events, most notably First Friday Art Walk in the Arts District when
Portland galleries open their doors to the commuintiy.
