Class description:

Friday evening will begin with a dessert and beverage reception allowing us to get to know one another. We will talk about the various ways to screen print and block print. You will discover how to turn your simple patterns into block prints which you can combine w/silkscreen methods for a fantastic end result.

Saturday we get down to some serious design & printing. Students will learn how to print a single-color placement print, repeat patterns and print on fabric & paper. We will be exploring various ways of designing and printing onto fabric using a blank screen and other materials. You will be creating your own designs using cut stencils and some other of my favorite methods for screen printing. You will print on fabric and/or paper, using your own designs. If you have a particular printing project in mind (printed pillowcases, napkins etc…,bring anything you want to print on paper, clothes, wood, glass, whatever!)), bring them with you and we can talk about & work on a plan for your design

Sunday we will finish up projects and oooh & aahh and be inspired by our fellow classmates work!

A message from Sue

I grew up in the Garden State, in a creative family, I was always encouraged to express myself through art. I attended Franklin Pierce College, and while not an art major, I took almost every art class offered. I have lived in Maine since 1981, taking in all of the beauty that surrounds us as inspiration. I am a self taught illustrator, printer & surface designer.

I show my work under my business name, Zaz & Moe, which represents my work as an artist, illustrator and designer, using pen & ink, block printing and a variety of surface design and sewing methods to make hand made work on a variety of media. Always intrigued by color & texture, I create one of kind prints using bold, vibrant dyes and paints. I continually rework color, pattern texture and design making my work distinctly recognizable. These designs have been translated into many mediums. I LOVE using color & pattern, mixing & repurposing materials and bringing bursts of color & fresh design ideas to life. Included in my line are women’s and children’s clothing, home accessories that are both functional and artistic, a greeting and note card & print line based on my original designs & mixed media pieces.

I have shown my work in some select local shops, galleries and invitational shows since 1993. I can be found a local juried crafts shows from July – December. I also do a number of artist residencies throughout the year as well as teaching in my home studio, and from time to time at Artascope Studios & SoPo Art Studios. I have had some work published in a book called, 100 handmade greeting cards by lark books. And currently I am part of the very cool Art House co-op sketch book project, 2011.
