Playful Expressionism in Paint

Instructor Sukie Curtis
September 23,24 & 25
Fri |6-9pm| Sat |10-6pm| Sun |10-2pm|

Class description:

As we gather Friday evening for our opening reception we will be introduced to one another and we will get to know Sukie Curtis. Sukie will guide us through some painting and drawing exercises to explore a variety of approaches to painting with oils that Sukie enjoys!

Saturday we will be filled with toppling tables, frolicking fruits, cavorting with colors and a supportive environment which allows us to explore self-expression in paint and “bend the reality” of what we see. With some step by step instruction and ample light hearted guidance we will explore our own conversations between our artist selves and our art.

Sunday is a day to reflect on our journey. We will finish up our work while getting a chance to fine tune our techniques and be able to view the result of our self expression. While being inspired by others we are sure to leave refreshed and eager to continue what Sukie started-an exploration in self expression.

A message from Sukie:

Most of my life I wanted to paint but just didn’t known how or where to start! In the late 1990′s, when the desire to paint got too big to ignore, I began to take continuing studies classes at MECA and eventually a college-level class at USM. While I got my start in painting and grew my confidence through the classes at MECA and USM, most of what I have learned has been through trial and error on my own. I seem to learn best by diving in, “getting myself in trouble” and then figuring out what to do from there. Looking at other artists’ work (in lots of different media) and reading art books continue to inspire me to try new ways of doing things. Abundant color, interesting compositions, and playful expression draw me to others’ work and are dominant elements of my own. Drawing, walking, being outdoors, noticing and savoring details are constant sources of inspiration.
