Oil Painting with Energy
Instructor Carolyn Walton
August 12, 13 + 14
Fri |6-9pm| Sat |10-6pm| Sun |10-2pm|
Class description:
Our three day exploration in oil painting begins with a dessert and beverage reception on Friday evening. This time allows us to get to know each other, Carolyn and the space we will be creating in together. Carolyn will discuss with us techniques that will be practiced over the weekend along with facilitating a small project to get our creative juices flowing.
There will be various demos throughout the workshop to illustrate the building of a painting from start to finish and Carolyn will work throughout the workshop with each student.
Sunday will be a time to complete our project and look to others for inspiration that will follow us after our Art Escape adjourns. Carolyn loves to paint and enjoys teaching her students how to find the same joy!
About Carolyn
Carolyn Walton paints primarily in oil, capturing the landscapes and architecture of the Northeast and Europe. She is inspired by the rural environment and coastal waters. Well-known for her interpretation of hay bales and farmland, her water paintings have gained a devoted following. Her paintings focus on the light in the landscape; the work is representational with painterly brushstrokes and an atmospheric use of light and shadow. She paintings primarily en plein air, while also producing larger landscapes and still lifes in the studio.
Exhibiting regularly in juried shows as well as invitational and solo shows, Carolyn Walton has received numerous awards. National awards include the RAI Award in 2009, NY Art Student’s League Award in 2005 and the Van Steen Award in 2003 – all three at the prestigious Hudson Valley Art Association National Exhibit (NY); and the Award of Merit at the national exhibition “Impressions of New England” at the Bennington Center for the Arts. Walton has been selected for inclusion in the new book 100 Artists of New England (Ashley Rooney, February 2011).
Walton paintings have been juried into a number of prominent national exhibitions including the Salon International (International Museum of Contemporary Masters, TX); Academic Artists (MA); Hilton Head Arts League (SC); Hudson Valley Artists Association (NY) and the Salmagundi Club (NYC). International Artist magazine named Walton a top 10 finalist in its competition “Seascapes, Rivers & Lakes” (2001). Walton is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, an elected member of the Hudson Valley Arts Association, and a member of Allied Artists of America.
The Curator of the State of Vermont invited Walton for a solo exhibition to help celebrate Howard Dean’s tenure as Governor in Jan 2003. Over the years, she has had various corporate commissions including cover paintings for the Vermont City Marathon (2003 & 1999) and five paintings at the Vermont National Country Club. Hundreds of her paintings are in corporate and private collections worldwide.
Walton maintains a studio on the coast of Maine (prior to this she lived in NY and Vermont). Walton is represented by Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison, CT; Robert Paul Galleries, Stowe, VT; The Luxton-Jones Gallery, Shelburne, VT, and Pentimento Design, Suffield, CT.
