Fri |6-9pm| Sat |10-6pm| Sun |10-2pm|

Class description:

Our three day fused glass workshop begins Friday evening with a welcoming reception. With beverages and dessert we will get to know one another and our instructor Cindy. Cindy will introduce us to the process of working with glass by having us make a pendant and a pair of earrings by using the basic fusing method. She will discuss planning, cutting, grinding and safety with glass. She will also explain the fusing process and working with a kiln.

Saturday we will explore a variety of techniques such as tac fusing, glass slumping, frit casting and fire polishing. We will work on making a small plate or a bowl by using the slumping method. As our project is firing we will begin assembling a beautiful garden ornament. Cindy will work with us on some “cold firing” techniques such as grinding and sanding our glass then discuss fire polishing to finish our work.

Sunday will provide us a chance to ask questions and wrap up any unfinished work we have started .We will then have a chance to get inspiration from each other by discussing our projects and how we can continue what we have learned from Cindy once our Art Escape ends. We will leave our weekend Escape with new confidence with glass, new friendships and some great creative energy.

A message from Cindy:

From knitting, crocheting and sewing with my mother, to hanging out in my father’s brass shop, art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In 1981 I was introduced to stained glass. At the age of nineteen I was given the opportunity to train under Roger Richmond, an architect and teacher at the University of Maine at Augusta. I spent the first twenty years of my love for glass building architectural stained and leaded windows for many homes in Maine.

My work has been featured in publications including Better Homes and Gardens Winter Building Guide and Architectural Ornamentalism. I have taught several years at a variety of summer camp programs for children and I teach adults at Artascope Studios.

In 2007 I made a trip to Portland Oregon, home to Bullseye Glass and I purchased my first kiln. My love for glass fusing was born and continues to grow daily! I am a lover of all art forms and I am currently working in my studio in South Portland designing and building garden ornaments with glass and metal.

I look forward to sharing my years of education and passion for working with glass with students. There is no better way to share my art than teaching it to others.
