Class Description: The techniques and innovative design ideas you will learn in this workshop will brighten any holiday season. After you make a very personalized block house with board, 2 snowmen made from bottles and many embellishments, a pennant spelling “JOY”, sewn paper cards that meld the paper world with fiber world, you will come home with a plethora of ideas for embellishments and decoration. Catherine and Sue will show you a world of creative possibility.

Techniques to be Presented and Projects to be Completed:
Friday (6-9pm)
Collaborative house project. Learn process of preparing surfaces for use in art projects (eg: gesso, sanding) and begin to discover the limitless world of decorating and personalizing with embellishments and paint.
Saturday (10am-6pm)
Two bottle snowmen: Sue will show you how to transform these ordinary objects into decorative art for the holidays.
“JOY” Pennant: Using embellishments and papers make a this positive holiday statement an artistic one as Catherine shows you how to decorate and assemble this hanging message.
Stocking with music paper: Turn vintage papers into sturdy material to but used in countless ways. For this project, make a stocking that is then embellished.

Sunday (10am-2pm)

Your Instructors
Catherine Matthews-Scanlon lives in Maine with her husband, 10 year old son and cute little dog named Guinness. For the last 7 years she has been a designer on the EK Success Brands Creative Artist Team; she has also written numerous articles for Sew Somerset, Somerset Studio, Creative Techniques Magazine and other craft magazines. She is the author of two books, Scrapbooking Techniques: Sewing on Paper and Art from the Heart. Having these books are not necessary for your class, but you might enjoy some of the other projects in them as you become more familiar with creating Mixed Media art projects. Catherine also enjoys reading, running, yoga and many other forms of exercise as well as cooking and gardening.

Sue Pellitier is a mom/artist/teacher who creates art as often as her busy life will let her. She is thrilled that her artwork has been featured several times in Cloth,Paper Scissors magazine. She has taught elementary school art for 20 years. It is all she has wanted to do since the second grade. Children’s art has always been a source of inspiration for Sue. She has 2 children of her own: Connor is 16 and Harly is 14. She enjoys that they both embrace their individuality and keep each day interesting and entertaining. Sue loves laughing out loud, yard sales and flea markets and ice coffee and especially loves making art. Sue is based in Hopkinton, MA.
